About Steve Roberts

Coach Roberts comes from a family of High Jumpers. At the age of about thirteen he and his cousin decided to go out into the front yard and put a broom handle across two trash cans, drag a mattress out and start jumping like then the world record holder Valeriy Brumel of Russia.
Steve and his Cousin continued to High Jump throughout junior and senior high school. Steve went on to play college football and his cousin Dwight Stones continued his course of excellence in the event with a best of 7’8, Multi World and American Records and 2 Time Olympic Medalist.  Not only was he sharing in the enjoyment of the sport, but he became a student of the sport as well. Steve’s younger brother Chris Roberts was also a very successful High Jumper throughout his time as a Track and Field athlete. It has become a family affair.  It has been an amazing ride thus far as Steve had the opportunity to coach not only the 2010 California State Boys High Jump Champion Tyler Jordan 7’0. But had the pleasure of coaching the 2011 California State Boys Indoor/Outdoor Champion Cody Crampton 6’11. On the girls side of things he enters his third year of coaching Danielle Bryan CIF High Jump Champion 5’10, Mishe’ Scott CIF Long Jump Champion 18’11 3/4” and many other up and coming talents. Long Jump training has been a new and rewarding addition to Steve’s pursuits in coaching.

Program and Events

Program

The practices are held once a week in the morning and the coaching sessions last an hour to an hour and a half and consist of a small group of 5-7 jumpers. We have a complete high jump setup, including a full pit and standards that athletes can utilize.

Our small group sessions ensure an in-depth coaching experience and numerous repetitions for each and every athlete.

Events

Legacy participates in track meets locally held in the Fall and Summer that we attend as a group and where each athlete can individually compete. Here, athletes have an opportunity to receive quality practice on the track in a competition setting and get to have fun at legitimate track meets during their school's offseason.

Legacy coaches attend all Fall and Summer meets to guide and instruct jumpers through these competitions, further creating opportunities for our athletes to grow and succeed.
